Empowering New Teachers through the Creation of an Innovative Mentor Program
I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to be the Mentor Coordinator in my school district. My vision for the program is to empower and cultivate the next generation of teacher leaders. New teachers and their mentors continuously learn authentic strategies that support and develop powerful professional learning communities within the school organization. These PLCs have become the hub of learning, professional growth, and have significantly impacted the culture and student learning outcomes within the school community. Additionally, educators continue to discover how utilizing the philosophy of the book The Innovator’s Mindset: Empower Learning, Unleash Talent, and Lead a Culture of Creativity by George Couros establishes a strong foundation for innovation, risk-taking, reflection, and professional growth. The experience of participating in the Mentor Program empowers new teachers and their mentors to successfully embrace the importance and value of developing strong collaborative relationships, how to become connected and networked educators, and elevate teaching and learning practices that will benefit the social, emotional, and academic growth for all students.
